11July - Final stage....Back at the start

11 th of July...bad weather again. Misty and cold.

I'm still in Akureyri but will take the bus today to get to Seydisfjordur. It is an interesting route, crossing several highlights of Iceland such as Godafoss, Dettifoss, Myrvatn lake.

Godafoss is the waterfall of the Gods ...and indeed a beautiful one. In the 10th century, a local king decided to introduce Christianity in Iceland and did throw all statues of former local mythic Gods into the Godafoss.

Not far from Godafoss, one can find another magnificant piece of nature: Dettifoss. This is the most powerfull waterfall of Europe.

Further to the east, you get to Myvatn lake, which is a zoological and geological important place. Very vulcanic, and still active, with heat coming out of the earth with a great power. . The colors due to the  chemical reactions are just marvelous.

More to the east, is Seydisfjordur, the harbour city. It will be my final place before getting back. Seydisfjordur is a huge fjord, with challenging climbs. Interesting for biking :-)
